Skyrim Creation Kit and 'Surprise' Tomorrow
Bethesda's Pete Hines has told us that Skyrim's Creation Kit and Steam integration for mods launches tomorrow, and he mentioned a special surprise, too. Well, one Steam user was snooping around the core files and found evidence of a Bethesda-made high-res textures pack, which is very possibly the surprise that Bethesda is offering.
It makes sense, too, as nearly every texture and piece of art in a game is drawn at a much higher resolution than we actually see in the regular game release; the realities of limited system memory (especially on consoles) and deadlines and release dates are often what stop these kinds of things from ever being released. If a developer knows its PC gamers' machines (and the game itself - remember that 4GB memory addressing patch?) can handle higher-res textures, then why not release them for those who can take advantage?
