Australia Reconsiders Video Game Rating Limit

By Joe Dodson, 12/15/2009 1:36 AM

The Australian government appears to be examining the possibility of establishing an R rating for video games.

Currently, if a video game is considered too mature for 15 year olds, it is effectively banned in Australia. This is unfortunate for Australian gamers, as there are a lot of great video games that the Australian censors consider too violent for your average adolescent. However, the government is rethinking its stance, and toward that end, it has established a web forum where Australian citizens can post why they think video games should or should not benefit from an R rating.

Submissions will be open to Australians until February 28, and they will be published for all to read. Unfortunately, none are currently posted, but that just means we all have time to get our popcorn ready.

I think this is going too either go wrong or go right,Because they could have loads of gamer`s saying that they should not and there could be twice as many parents say why it should and if they win then they might make it happen in other country`s which will be the end of ,gory, swearing, sexy games, but it might go the other wy and I`m pretty sur it will.

I agree! This will definitely either go wrong or right. And I see your point about there being twice as many parents in Australia, and would even like to posit that given the way dingos eat babies over there, there might even be a greater ratio of parents to kids than 2:1. So that could play a huge role, or not.
