Air Force Buying 2,200 PS3s
By Joe Dodson, 11/24/2009 8:35 PMIn the best stroke of Sony PR luck in recent memory, the US Air Force is adding 2,200 PS3s to its supercomputing network.
The Air Force's requisition form claims that PS3s include the most cost-efficient Cell processor on the market: "With respect to cell processors, a single 1U server configured with two 3.2GHz cell processors can cost up to $8K while two Sony PS3s cost approximately $600."
Apparently, the Air Force's PS3 Cell supercomputing network will be used to study Advanced Computing Architectures, High Performance Embedded Computing, and of course, how quickly Air Force tech nerds can beat God of War III.
