Green Berets, Depeche Mode Shirts and Left 4 Dead 2
By Joe Dodson, 11/3/2009 8:51 PMAll sorts of weird and wacky news from the world of Left 4 Dead 2 pre-orders and Xbox Live avatar clothes, featuring green berets and…Depeche Mode?
The first bit of news is for Team Fortress 2 PC players that pre-order Left 4 Dead 2; you will gain access to Bill's green beret from the original Left 4 Dead. Whatever, right? It's just a green beret. Then again, Valve's pitch makes it all worth while. In a post on the TF2 blog, they write:
"For the first time in history, two separate Valve universes collide. That's right: it's a Left 4 Dead/Team Fortress crossover! This is not fan fiction! This is not a dream sequence! The characters from Team Fortress 2 will team-up with Bill's hat from Left 4 Dead 1!"
It's also worth mentioning, again, that if you pre-order Left 4 Dead 2, you get 10% off the retail price.
Also, Left 4 Dead 2 will award you with Live avatar items when you complete tasks. Here are the rewards:
Left 4 Dead 2 Shirt - Win 10 Scavenge games
Left 4 Dead 2 Shirt #2 - Win 10 Scavenge games
Depeche Mode Shirt - Rescue Gnome Chompski from Dark Carnival
Depeche Mode Shirt #2 - Rescue Gnome Chompski from Dark Carnival
Zombie Hand Shirt - Kill 10,000 Infected
Zombie Hand Shirt #2 - Kill 10,000 Infected
So, you get a Left 4 Dead 2 shirt, a zombie hand shirt, and…Depeche Mode shirts? That's random, right? Wrong! It turns out that Depeche Mode is all up in Left 4 Dead 2. Valve's Chet Falizsek told Kotaku that the game studio approached lots of acts and record labels about working with Left 4 Dead 2, and Depeche Mode was one of the most receptive. That's hardly surprising, since Depeche Mode are so goth, they're practically zombies themselves. Or as they put it, "We are the dead of night / We're in the zombie room."
