Download FAQ
How Do I Download From Your Site?
To download a file from us, you must click one of our "Download from Server" links on the file's page. You should see a small popup window appear with the queue time remaining. Once that time expires, you should hear a sound (assuming you have a plugin like Quicktime installed) and then you can click the link to start the download. The Download Didn't Start.
Did the download popup appear when you clicked on a server? If not, there could be a few reasons. One is that some third-party firewall software like ZoneAlarm, Kapersky, and others will block popups, even the ones that aren't advertisements. You'll need to set those to allow "atomicgamer.com" to create popups.Other reasons for this could be if you have "High" security settings in your browser, or if JavaScript is getting disabled either in your browser or through some kind of firewall.
Do I Need To Register or Pay to Download?
Nope! People who make free accounts get to skip the queue for any file under 1MB in size, and paid subscribers can download files without waiting in the queue. Other than that, everyone has access to every single file on AtomicGamer. What Do I Do with This File?
If you've downloaded a file that nothing on your computer can open, then it's very likely to be a compressed file like .7z or .RAR which Windows itself cannot handle. You can pick up WinRAR or 7-Zip (versions are available for 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Windows) and once you install those, you should be able to right-click the file and extract. The File I Downloaded is Corrupt.
This is almost always due to an interrupted download. Every once in a while a corrupt file does make it onto AtomicGamer, but we've had only a few instances of that in the tens of thousands of files we host. What we suggest is that you check the file size against the size we've got mentioned in the file info on our site. Ifcj the version you have is smaller, that means the file didn't complete successfully and you'll have to re-download. If you want to see exactly how big a file is in Windows, right-click it, click Properties, and look at Size (not Size on Disk). Many of our files have what's called an "MD5 hash" listed under the file info. You can use a program like MD5 Check to compare the file you downloaded to the one on our servers; if the MD5 characters match, then the file completed successfully. If not, then it definitely was corrupted during downloading/saving.
My Antivirus Software Just Flipped Out.
There are some files on AtomicGamer that trip up antivirus software. Many of them are programs that allow you to cheat in a single player game. The reason for this is because these programs target the game and modify its contents in memory, which is also a technique used by malicious software developers to sometimes write evil software. Antivirus software can't tell the difference between the two, so it triggers on anything like it with a general warning. In the end, we cannot absolutely guarantee the safety of your computer or files, especially if you download cheat-type programs like this. If you download from us and your antivirus software is tripped, unless you see a specific threat with a particular name, you should be just fine. If you've got a credible virus warning (with a named threat) on any file that came from our site, by all means let us know.
I'm Having Trouble Completing Downloads.
Most people still use Internet Explorer for web browsing, but it was never built for downloading large files from the internet. We highly recommend an alternative browser like Firefox, Opera, or Google Chrome for big downloads, and if not those, a download manager like GetRight or FlashGet.My Download Accelerator Doesn't Work.
Some download accelerator programs or plugins (like DownThemAll or GetRight) try to speed up the download by starting multiple downloads of the same file at once, each starting at a different point, and then stitching the whole thing together when they're finished. This creates an undue load on servers, though, so AtomicGamer only allows one download "thread" at once from each user. Most download accelerators now automatically detect servers like ours, so they're usually safe to use on AtomicGamer in a single thread (and their ability to resume stopped downloads can sometimes be helpful), but we do not officially support their use at all.The File I Downloaded Isn't Corrupt, But It Still Doesn't Work.
This could be due to a large number of problems. If you're downloading a game update or patch, sometimes it needs to patch from a specific version to another; in most games, the version you're at is mentioned somewhere on a launcher screen, on the game's title screen, or in the "Readme" documentation. If you're trying to get running on an MMO game and an update doesn't work, you might try searching for that game's latest full client on our site and install that; often the game will auto-update itself once you run it.
If you are still having issues, let us know.
